Facebook is planning to make Local Alerts accessible to more authorities in order to keep their users informed and ensure their safety during the coronavirus outbreak.
During a crisis like the one we are living in right now, it’s important to stay updated, especially regarding the situation in your area. Some authorities have already used the Local Alerts tool to distribute relevant information. But considering the speed in which the situation evolves and the importance of instant updates, it’s no wonder Facebook decided to give more local authorities in the US, including emergency management organizations and health agencies access to its alerting tools.
Besides that Facebook is going to donate $10 million dollars to support the detection and direct prevention of the coronavirus outbreak globally, and the same sum will go to support these practices in the US.
