YouTube Confirms Its Restrictions on Videos Talking about Coronavirus-Related Conspiracy Theories

YouTube confirmed that it limits the reach for content talking about the link between COVID-19 and 5G. This may be the reaction towards the recent attacks on phone masts happening in the UK.

Some people speculated that there was a link between COVID-19 and 5G and that the fifth generation broadband is to blame for the spread of the coronavirus. The rumors could have emerged due to the belief that Wuhan, where the virus reportedly originated from, was the first province in China to have full 5G coverage. This was proved to be wrong since it’s not the only province to have 5G; and at the same time, the coronavirus is also spreading with enormous speed in the regions where there is no 5G.

YouTube will remove videos that violate their policies, but for those videos that are conspirational about the link between the COVID-19 and 5G, it will limit their reach.
